I’m currently working for an MNC company for the past 7 years and aiming to do an MBA. 2 things -> If i come to US on a work visa (H1B)and have a good GMAT score, will i be able to do part-time MBA?.

–> Related to above. If i happen to travel to US before giving a GMAT exam in india , can i give the exam while staying in US and still apply for admission to any of the B schools?.

Your response would definetly help me to plan out..

    Thanks,

  4. Hi Mukul,

Your website is awesome. Your story is almost fit for a movie 🙂

Now that you have mentioned that with a 770 and an IIT degree it was hard for you to make it into TUCK. What are the chances that an average student with a good GMAT (720), Masters and working in USA from an avg college have even into making into the top 15 schools ? I understand it takes more to evaluate experience, essays and more.

In all candor do you even know any non IIT student who made it into the top 10 ? Does that happen at all ?

I appreciate the time and effort behind this website.

  5. Hi, mukul I have recently come across your blog and found it interesting that some from India is into this passionately. well I am from India and have been in the U.S from past 3 yrs in California and have recently started preparing for the gmat. So, now as u have written this earlier in your blog that u like to help so you need to help me as I need tips on how to become a good test taker. I know most of the things about Gmat and the course but i think I am not a very good Test taker especially when it a long sitting test. You can contact me on my email or send me a facebook message.

im am aneesha well i want to give gmat by oct or nov how sholud i start prep from scratch ?? i just completed my BE in computer science. plss reply

  8. Hi Mukul – I just had a specific query – you mention in your post that top b-schools prefer IB/Consulting /Non Profit.

Do you suggest then a candidate should take up some non-profit work to bolster his/her profile.??

Also do you think Tuck as a school is more open to NON ” IB/Consulting /Non Profit” profiles. Any other schools like this among the top B-schools, who are open to profiles which are not from the traditional feeder firms.

Apart from getting a good gmat score any other tips you may have on enhancing application.

Would be helpful if you could share some thoughts.

Have posted this query on your website also.

    Thanks
    Misha

  13. Hi Mukul,

I am getting ready to follow your journey in the GMAT/MBA world! I am excited and motivated to start learning!

I went to your part of the site where it has downloads and you mention you have to be a member of… pointshare?… but then you say you don’t need to. I wanted to get some of the documents like the quant equation cheat sheet and some of the AWA topics but it will not give me access. Is there another way I can access these?

Please let me know! AND THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP! YOUR SITE IS AWESOME!!!

  16. Dear Mukul,

If you scored 770 why did you go to Tuck?Could you also put your GMAT score report online for us to see that your claims are correct?I mean 770 is a beautiful score, shouldn’t be a problem for you.

    Waiting for your score report.

    Thanks,

    Jacob.

    • Dude, its a free website to help everyone who is taking the GMAT. Believe it or not, there are a couple of folks here with a 770 and even higher score. How would you know if I put up a photoshopped score report up here? Rather than being so cynical about my score, why dont you invest the time and effort in your exam.

Btw, putting up score reports is not allowed as per GMAC’s terms and condition. I can only ask them to report it to the school/institution. Thanks for dropping by though. Hope this site helps you.

And Tuck is a great school. Once you can come out of the brand/ranking mentality, and start seeing your fit, you would understand.

  17. Dear Mukul,

I am in no way trying to question your score.I am just trying to spam out the weed from the real folks. There are so many folks out there who claim to be GMAT wizard and offer free advise. While on one hand it is free advise but on other hand it is the worst advise they can offer to people. The script in all the cases is pretty much the same.A great GMAT score followed by cool prep. methods. But in reality their score is not that great. Most of them have not even taken GMAT.So, being a savvy person I question everything before following it.I don’t see anything wrong in that. And as I said,it is a beautiful score, worth flaunting, why not just post it here.I am not asking you to post a scanned copy, which you rightly mentioned can be photoshopped and what not.GMAC provides you with a link(a url) and PIN number which you can share with anyone who wants to see and download your score report and in fact can post it on your website.

There is no GMAC terms and conditions, which will stop you from flaunting your great GMAT score.I believe you and that is why I want you to stand correct and tall.

    Thanks,

    Jacob

    • Hey Jacob,

So I hear your argument and agree with it. Sadly, MBA.com no longer keeps my report. They keep it for 5 years, and if you don’t ask to keep it for another two years, they remove it from the records. I took it in 2006, which is a long back. I don’t know what other way is there to prove it. Sadly at this point its not even worth the effort to do so.

If you had anyone at Tuck, I guess you could ask him/her!!

Anyways best of luck with your MBA journey. My convocation is next week! And I will be working at Deloitte, Boston starting July. The whole thing was totally worth it for me 🙂

      • No worries.I wish you all the best in all your future endeavors!

  18. Hi Mukul

  19. Sir

I am an ISB aspirant. I know there is no as such cut off for ISB, still on your personal experience basis what is the expected cut off for ISB?

I searched it already a lot and according to my researches it is 700+, around 730. Is it so?

Also, Is there any sectional Cut Off?

What raw scores/Weighted scores should one target in the tests while preparing for ISB-GMAT.

    Awaiting your reply

  20. Dear Mukul,

First of all, congratulations for your achievment, though late but excellent.

    ::
I am damn serious about this…n yes Gmat is like a dream for me which i want to LIVE in real

Looking forward for a favourable reply.!

  22. Hi Mukul,

I have been through your website and do admire the score that you have achieved. Its a testament to your hard work and dedication. Currently I am enrolled for MGMAT prep course and have had only one class thus far. Per the class requirement I did take a CAT #1 exam and was not too impressed with my score. I do need radical improvement, granted that I have not spent too much time studying prior to taking the exam I did struggle with DS , SC and word problems. What pointers and tools you can suggest that I can employ in my studies moving forward to master these topics. I have quite a few Industry technical certifications but it seems I need a different strategy for GMAT. Could you give me your input.

    Thanks,
    Upinder

  24. Hi Mukul,

I ended up here after some exhaustive searching on the net with regards to good GMAT coaching institutes and best practices on preps. I went through couple of pages here and i think the effort you have been putting in to run this single handedly deserves a lot of praise.

i am planning to give the GMAT by April 1st Week, do you think that’s a good amount of time to get through the preps? Also, i am really looking to get some GMAT coaching, could You please guide me for the same? honestly, I am feeling very lost with the whole thing and would be very grateful if you could take a little time out of your busy schedule and help me out with some more queries.

    Thanks a Ton

  25. Hi Mukul,

Can you please provide your e-mail id so that I can get a consultation and can discuss the issues related to gmat prep.

  26. Any other source for free downloads? The Quant and AWA files are all missing.

  27. Hey Mukul,

I have one urgent question to ask. I set a date for GMAT that I only have two months to prepare for. (Today is Jan 16th 2014. GMAT is on March 18th)
Seeing your previous post, it seems like 4 hours a day X 4 months is the proper time frame.
What books would you recommend? I will be able to put in 4-6 hours a day for the next two months.

Really hope to hear from you on this. Thank you in advance.

    Eugene

  28. Look at my books section. It will tell you all about the books you need to buy. Also the prep schedule lists down all the books you need.

At a minimum you need OG, SC manhattan, Kaplan Verbal, and a high school math textbook sorta thing. Or else you can buy the manhattan math series.

    Hope that helps.

  29. Hi Mukul,
Your site seems to be life saver in the midst of the mist I am in. Unlike all those who have posted I have done my grad in bio and intend taking GMAT . Please suggest me the right approach right from scratch..

    • Anjali,
Even though I appreciate you dropping by here, I am disappointed that you would ask something so insincere.
The whole website is about how to start prepping for GMAT from scratch.
http://www.gmating.com/gmat/ – this talks about the first step.
http://www.gmating.com/gmat-prep-guide/ – this is a detailed plan to prepare with day by day schedule. All the books you will need. Chapter by chapter details of the plan.

And if you can take a look above, I have answered a query on 15th Jan. I don’t have enough time these days, because I travel for the whole week every week, and I reserve my time for questions which are specific. You cant expect me to answer something like, tell me what is the best way to prep for GMAT.

I am a brutally honest person when it comes to giving advice or feedback. That is the only way that works. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but I think you would get a flavor of the level of specificity required to ask and answer questions. Welcome to the world of MBAs.

  32. Hi Mukul,

I have been following GMATing since I thought of appearing for it.

First I would give you brief details of my profile:
    1. 8 Years of experience in semiconductor design & verification. Currently working in ARM UK.
    2. Age 31 years.
    3. BE for Raipur with 72.3% (But was in top 5% of my university).

I am looking to get into ISB for an MBA as I don’t have other options (can’t stay away from my work for more than 1 year for obvious reasons).

Please guide me as I am starting my GMAT preparation, its been more than 10 years away from studies and I am very much serious to get through GMAT and then ISB. I have got OG13 & Veritas complete set with me already.

  34. Hi Mukul,
I am a software developer with 8 years of work ex and I am currently in Michigan. I really appreciate your effort in making GMAT prep effortless. I always wanted to do MBA after my post graduation in computer science. However, to be honest, I have never been committed towards preparing myself for the CAT/GMAT exams. However I did attempt GMAT last year with little or no preparation and I scored a dismal 480 which I was ashamed of. I have been preparing for GMAT (I won’t call it a preparation though) ever since. But I have never studied with concentration and dedication.
The worst thing is that I lose interest in studies after a short period of time.
I went through your website and I feel very motivated now to go ahead and schedule my GMAT prep as per your suggestion.
My only question to you is, How should I keep myself motivated?

I will surely keep you posted on my preparations and would certainly seek your help at times when I am stuck somewhere.

Thank you for making this website. It is very resourceful for a person like me to prepare for GMAT.

    Thanks,
    Mrunal

  35. Hi Mukul,

Can you share your email id as I am not on facebook and wont be able to interact using FB. I have some specific questions regarding the relevancy and entry criteria for the EMBA programs currently being offered by various B-schools across the globe and how can it be a useful addition the my profile and professional career.

    Thanks in advance.

  36. Hi Mukul,

  37. Hi Mukul,

This is Rajesh. Im a 2.5 years experienced IT professional, looking forward to pursue MBA in US.
I have started my preparations on GMAT as well. Your site is of great help for me. My little confusion is on the deadline to be ready with GMAT, TOEFEL scores to apply for the 2015 fall intake. When usually the application are issued from colleges and what the deadlines for the same ??

    Please calrify!! Thanks!!!

    • Hi Rajesh,

It seems like you have not done a proper research on the internet. Rather than simply expecting answers, put in some time to do some research. Nonetheless, I will try to answer them.
For 2015 intake, the applications will be out around August. The essays will be out a bit before. Around now would be a good time to keep checking the school websites. YOu should take the GMAT and TOEFL in the next 3 months. Even with this you wont be able to do prepare a good application by end of year. That way you will be able to apply 2nd or 3rd round.
      Hope that helps.

  38. Hi Mukul,

I am targeting Indian B-Schools and planning to take GMAT in mid-Oct. My total work exp will be 3 years next month.

I really need help in verbal section. Esp writing part. Can you please advise me how to practice for AWA. Do you think 4 months are sufficient to prepare for verbal section that too with job.

    Eagerly waiting for your reply.

    Regards,
    Neha

  39. Hi Mukul

I am targeting Indian B-Schools and planning to take GMAT in Dec 2014. I have a total work exp of 7.5 yrs
I took the mock diagnostic test and landed up with a score of 420 which I feel is way too low.

Do you really think I can end up getting a score of 700 + given that I can invest 4-5 hours per day for studies.
I really need to work on my basics.

please do give me your honest opinion.

    Thanks & Regards

  46. Mukul,
I have read many of your posts, and I’m planning to apply next year. Everything is ready except one, which by the way terrifies me. How did you and how would I manage to pay the tuition. Every school has tuition of at least 110,000$. And it is not a sum that I can borrow in the form of loans or just raise from family. My man I would really like your comments on this.

  47. Hello Mukul Sir, I am appearing for GMAT this July and I am preparing for it breath-in-breath-out. But I have few major issues that I would like you to help me about.
    1. It took me 8 years to complete my Engineering. I failed every year once.
    2. My average of all semesters is pass class
    3. My last year grad score is 55%.
    4. I have no working experience, on paper.

    What I have:
    1. I ran a small animation studion(non-registered) for 1 year but gave it up as I am fully concentrating on GMAT.
    2. I have few(3-5) ex-clients who are successful entreprenuers and they can provide me a letter of recommendation each, will this help me in anyway?
I am working hard for GMAT and expect a 700+ score. Will any good school even consider me? What options do I have?
    Thanks in advance.

  48. Hi Mukul,

I am following your blog from last few days and I feel like you may be the right person to guide me.
Im 23 and currently in US working for a top MNC in USA for the last 4 months.
I have done my Masters in US with Bachelors degree from JNTU in CS with 3.5 GPA in both.
I know that I don’t have enough experience to apply for top B-schools in US even if I get a good GMAT score. But is there any way that I can overcome this backdrop?
Can you please help me with this?

  49. Hi Mukul..it is incredible to see someone taking time to guide others so enthusiastically, hats off. And even better to see that you are from IIT Delhi where I also happen to pass out from. I came across your blog while browsing for some dos and donts of Gmat and had a quick query if you can please guide me.
I am 2009 batch passout and thinking about taking gmat given that I expect to find required time for preparation this year. My question is..I have come across an online platform called EGMAT for preparation and a few people have said that its good. I also expect to see verbal section as a challenge for me during preparation and thus a bit concerned whether I will be able to sail through all the books (for verbal) that you mentioned in your blog as swiftly as you. I also feel I may need some guidance along the way regarding the concepts, something that EGMAT provides with their online sessions.
Can you please share your thoughts on this? I did prepared for CAT in my final year in IIT and scored 99.3%, so I should be okayish in verbal..but probably not enough to get a decent score in GMAT (730+ 🙂 ).

You opinion will be much appreciated. Thanks.

    Gaurav
